Please be aware that both your checked baggage and carry-on baggage may be subjected to security screening. There are some items which are prohibited in carry-on baggage and some items which are prohibited in checked baggage. Generally you are prohibited from carrying:

  • Dangerous goods

  • Corrosive, magnetised or radioactive materials
  • Toxic and infectious substances
  • Sharp or other dangerous objects which could be used as weapons aboard the aircraft

  • Pack appropriately to avoid inconvenience and delays at security check points.

Children/Minors

One child over seven days old and under twenty-four months of age not occupying a seat is carried at a fee of USD10 when included in the booking of the accompanying adult passenger.
Accompanying children ages 2 to 11 will be charged the applicable child fare for the flight.

Unaccompanied Minors

LIAT's Unaccompanied Minor (UM) Policy caters primarily for children from 5 to 11 (not yet 12 years). Parents wishing for a young person (YP) 12 to 15 years to travel with supervision, will be allowed to do so as per UM policy.

LIAT will not accept at check-in children under 12 who are unaccompanied unless they have a correctly completed UM form with contact information matching the information that is reflected in the LIAT check- in system. Download a copy of the Unaccompanied Minor Form.

An unaccompanied minor will be charged the applicable child fare for the flight in addition to a service fee of USD25

Children at least five years of age and up to seven years old are accepted for unaccompanied travel on LIAT flights which do not involve a scheduled change of aircraft (i.e. connecting flights).

Children who are at least eight years of age and up to eleven years old are accepted for unaccompanied travel throughout the LIAT network.

Unaccompanied children must hold confirmed reservations on their intended flight(s).

The unaccompanied child must be brought to the airport by the parent or guardian who must remain at the airport until fifteen (15) minutes after flight departure.

For all children entering Barbados the following also applies

A child under the age of 12 who is visiting Barbados unaccompanied requires a notarised letter from his/her parent or legal guardian stating that permission has been given for the minor to stay with a host/hostess. The full name, the address and telephone number of the host/hostess must be included in the letter.

Please note that no male other than a Father is allowed to receive minors and he must produce proof of paternity. A female occupant of the household is required to meet them.

Children 12 years old but under 16 travelling unaccompanied, must meet the above-mentioned requirement. Those 16 years old but under 18 must have the full name and address of their host, however, no letter is required.
