Home > LIAT announces same day cargo movements to Cuba

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, February 25, 2011 – LIAT, THE Caribbean Airline, which officially launched its Dedicated Freighter Service earlier this month, has announced that it can now move Cargo from its Eastern Caribbean destinations to Cuba with same day delivery.

LIAT’s Director of Cargo and Quikpak, Mr. Wilbur Edwards, said that LIAT’s partnership with COPA Airlines of Panama now makes possible same-day movement of Cargo from the Eastern Caribbean to Cuba and from Cuba to the Eastern Caribbean via Santo Domingo. He pointed out that, in addition to its regular Freighter service, LIAT flies to Santo Domingo three days per week with its regular line flights – Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday – departing Antigua at 10:20am and arriving Santo Domingo at 12:30pm. This allows for a transfer to COPA with a connection to Cuba on that same day.

Edwards noted that persons interacting with Cuba such as students, businessmen, regional and Cuban diplomats, citizens as well as businesses and nationals from all of the countries in LIAT’s network now have a convenient way to move Cargo to and from Cuba.

“With so many students from the islands now studying in Cuba and with the many Cuban doctors, nurses and diplomats throughout the Caribbean, we think they should be aware that there is a very efficient way of transporting goods including personal effects to and from Cuba,” Edwards said.

“Further, with LIAT’s recent launch of its dedicated Cargo Freighter service with 3,400 kilos capacity, large shipments can be accommodated without any difficulty. We are eagerly waiting to serve the many Cubans in our network as well as the large student community in Cuba.”

LIAT Cargo operates five days a week throughout the airline’s 22 destinations; and utilises automated cargo systems to make bookings, generate manifests, and provides rate calculations and cargo tracking on its website www.liatcargo.com .

Last year LIAT converted one of its Dash-8 100 aircraft to full cargo configuration providing regional exporters with a much needed air bridge to meet demands for their produce in the various islands.
