BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, February 01, 2011 – Regional airline LIAT, the Caribbean Airline today officially launched its Intra Caribbean cargo service at an event at the Hilton Barbados Hotel, attended by industry officials from across the region.
“We will be operating five days a week throughout our 22 destinations and will utilise automated cargo systems to make bookings, generate manifests, provide rate calculations, and cargo tracking on our new website www.liatcargo.com ", LIAT's Director of Cargo and QuikPak Wilbur Edwards said.
Last year LIAT converted one of its Dash-8 100 aircraft to full cargo configuration providing regional farmers and exporters with a much needed air bridge to meet demands for their produce in the various islands.
“A central element of our plan is to not only extend our reach regionally but also extra regionally via our three major hubs – Antigua, Barbados and Trinidad through our relationships with international carriers,” Mr. Edwards explained, adding: “Important opportunities exist with these carriers to feed into extra-regional markets.”
LIAT is one of the leading Caribbean airlines. It is owned by regional shareholders, with the major shareholders being the Governments of Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. More information about LIAT may be found at www.liat.com .
