“At LIAT we are particularly proud to be part of today’s celebration as we have had the privilege of assisting six bright young people from the Eastern Caribbean to participate in the programme here at Ogle,” said LIAT’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Brian Challenger who was among the main speakers at the graduation ceremony.
The six students were awarded full scholarships by LIAT in 2007. As part of their three-year programme, they were involved in line maintenance with a domestic airline which operates out of the Ogle Airport in Georgetown as well as a larger carrier at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Mr. Challenger explained that the scholarship recipients have all performed exceedingly well receiving distinctions and merits.
The next step for the students will be to sit the examinations administered by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) in order to acquire their Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Licence.
LIAT is expected to announce the details of its 2011 three-year Support Maintenance Scholarship Programme which is aimed at building engineering capacity within the region to support the airline’s operations.
LIAT is one of the leading Caribbean airlines. It is owned by regional shareholders, with the major shareholders being the Governments of Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. More information about LIAT may be found at www.liat.com .
