ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, February 03, 2010 – Regional airline LIAT is collaborating with the Leeward Islands Student Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LISATT) in the promotion of the carnivals of the Leeward Islands.
The inaugural promotional event is slated for March 12 at the St. Augustine, Trinidad campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI). It will feature the music of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, Montserrat and St. Kitts and Nevis.
LIAT and LISATT are hoping to attract not only a large amount of the 15,000 students at the university but also persons from throughout Trinidad and Tobago to the event.
“This is a great occasion for us to show off the Leeward Islands but more so to bring together persons from across the world that are now studying at the UWI or living in Trinidad, in a celebration of the cultures of the Leeward Islands,” LISATT President Timoy Titus said.
“Cultural festivals have been too long ignored in Trinidad, the „home‟ of carnival and so we decided to take action. We also hope to foster a greater appreciation of small-island culture and festivals in the Caribbean, while promoting inter-island travel in a spirit of unity and celebration,” Mr. Titus added.
He said that the group could think of no one better to help put together the occasion than the long-time supporter of carnivals in the Leeward Islands – LIAT, the Caribbean Airline.
LIAT is one of the leading Caribbean airlines. It is owned by regional shareholders, with the major shareholders being the Governments of Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. More information about LIAT may be found at www.liat.com .
