ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, January 20, 2010 – On Saturday 16th January 2010 the Hon. Baldwin Spencer, the Hon. David Thompson and Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Ministers of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, respectively, countries which are the major shareholders of LIAT (1974) Ltd, met at the Barbados Hilton Hotel with the LIAT Chairman, Jean Holder, other directors of the Board, the Acting Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Brian Challenger and members of the Executive management staff, at their regular quarterly meetings held to review the airline’s performance.

The opportunity was taken to hold discussions with Mr. Arthur Lok Jack, chairman of Caribbean Airlines, (CAL), the national carrier of Trinidad and Tobago, who attended at the invitation of the Prime Ministers to discuss the need for closer cooperation between CAL and LIAT. Mr. Lok Jack’s four man delegation included Captain Ian Brunton, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CAL.

The discussions centred around the critical role of air transportation services in the socio-economic development of the region, in particular the Commonwealth Caribbean, and the need to improve communications both between Caribbean states and with the wider world with which they do business.

The discussions which were chaired by Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister with lead responsibility in CARICOM for air transportation, were frank, cordial and productive and ended with agreement between the parties to put measures in place immediately for further direct discussions between the management of CAL and LIAT.
